David Morrissey visited on May 9, 2011 and spoke about the United States and the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). The CRPD is the first international human rights convention of the 21st Century and the first treaty to address disability rights globally.

Morrissey met with students in RGRIL and gave a public lecture, providing a history of the CRPD and its present status in the U.S. Since the adoption of the Convention by the United Nations in 2007, U.S. International Council on Disability (USICD) has been committed to raising awareness and promoting U.S. ratification of the CPRD.

The United States signed the CRPD in July 2009 and the Obama Administration is currently working on its transmittal to the Senate for formal ratification.
